Carrington Blog 2.0
Carrington Blog 2.0 is now available! Download it here.
Version 2.0 has been aging like a fine wine since the beta release in early March. In that time, features have been refined, bugs have been fixed, documentation has been improved, and a variety of other enhancements have been made.
Here is a run-down of the changes from 1.x to 2.0:
Threaded Comments
WordPress 2.7 threaded comments support. Threading and comment form JS also works when comments are pulled via AJAX. WordPress 2.7 paginated comments are also supported.
Customizable Colors
Ever wished you could easily customize the color of the links or change the header color to match your brand? Carrington Blog now supports easy color customization for all the main theme elements through simple color pickers on the settings page.

There is a built-in preview feature as well, so you can check your changes before you make them live.

Customizable Header Image
Personalize the header with your own custom background image. You can choose an image from the media gallery to be used as your header image.
Lightboxes
Image galleries can optionally be loaded through a Lighbox script. This lets you load your galleries straight into the page via AJAX!

Attachments
Attachment (image) galleries have been abstracted into the framework: you can now take advantage of Carrington’s elegant theme conventions for galleries too.
Optional Images
- Background images are now abstracted into a separate stylesheet. You can choose to exclude them for a simple, stripped-down look.
- More efficient typography.css with fewer lines.
- A more effective reset, based on Eric Meyer’s famous code.
- Improved display of HTML when CSS is disabled, improving your site’s accessibility.
- IE6 layout hardening against certain content-related bugs. This should fix things for the users that experienced problems with dropping sidebars under certain content conditions.
Misc.
- Better internationalization.
- Fixed logout errors associated with 2.7’s nonce tokens. WordPress 2.7 introduced a special unique key that has to be passed in order to successfully log out. Carrington’s logout functions have been updated to take advantage of this, while still remaining backwards-compatible.
- Category descriptions are now shown at the top of category archives.
- Fixed a styling issue with the ShareThis plugin.
- Informational comments added to compatibility files (style.css, index.php, 404.php, etc) to help theme developers.
- Improved documentation.
Enjoy!

If you notice on my blog (http://www.raulpacheco.org) you’ll see that I have too many categories and therefore the top of my blog looks horrendous. Also, how can I make the font size for the permalinks smaller? It’s HUMONGOUS. I don’t have the premium version of Carrington, I might add.
Thanks!

Hi Alex,
Wonderful job!
On the threaded comments, I received some “complaints” from visitors who visit our weblog a few times a day, that they find it harder to locate new comments since they’re in between older ones. I do like the threaded way of displaying comments and I think it actually makes life for less frequent visitors a lot easier: they can easily follow conversations.
Is there an easy way to highlight “new” comments (since someones last visit) to accomadate the first group of users?

Hi Alex,
I am trying use the plugin headspace but I receive an error saying there is no
1. wp_head was not found in header.php
2. wp_footer was not found in footer.php
Will the theme support headspace out-of-the box or what mods to I need to do Perhaps, there is some other seo plugins I can use specifically I need to nofollow some of the pages.
by Paul Wylie on Jun 11, 2009 at 5:56 am
The headspace plugin should be smarter in it’s compatibility checks.

Hi, I’ve been following this theme since its publication, and I really love it. Now that I’m building my new website, I’d like to use it for my blog, and I’ve not found a way to customize or show the themes and splash divs that you have in your home page.
It’s there any plugin or widget that handles it?
Best regards
by Alvaro Isorna on Jun 23, 2009 at 3:56 am
Use the theme framework!
Create a posts/home.php and customize however you like.
by Alex King on Jun 23, 2009 at 6:26 am
Mmm I think i’ve not read enough about Carringtom Framework. Thank You very much Alex!!.

I’m going to evaluate Carrington theme on my new blog.
I’m a behind on schedule with my articles, but hope to have some in a publishable state after this weekend.
There is one thing that really worries me though. The 2 lines at the bottom of the documents page under Tips : http://crowdfavorite.com/wordpress/carrington/readme/
“There is extra processing associated with the file system and context checks that Carrington requires. Because of this, use of a caching plugin is recommended.”
Could you please recommend a caching plugin which plays well with the Carrington theme ?
And it should allow me to prevent caching of pages/counters/ads/elements etc.
Or will all caching plugins at wordpress.org work correctly with the Carrington theme ?
TIA,
Robert

I just installed Carrington and am unable to use a custom header image. It allows me to upload my image file, but does not display it in the previeqw or on my page. Is there a file type or other type of restriction I should know about for header images?

There are two good options for support for Carrington:
Professional support from WordPress HelpCenter
http://wphelpcenter.com
Community support in our Google Group:
http://groups.google.com/group/carrington-framework
Unfortunately, the comments here are not a good support venue.
